Do they bug you?
Does it bug you that your food is produced with toxic and persistent pesticides, often leaving behind residues and other chemicals? Do you wish to remove harmful pesticides from your plate and the planet? Do you want to eat food produced without the use of GMOs? Support CCOF’s non-profit efforts as we certify organic products throughout the U.S. and prevent the spread of toxic pesticides and fertilizers, GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), and synthetic growth hormones in food production.
Pesticides are scary stuff.
Do you want to live in a world with no bees or ladybugs? We don’t! Organic pest prevention practices always start with preventative measures and biological choices.
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation reported that statewide pesticide use reached nearly 156 million pounds in 2009.1 While some harmful synthetic pesticides have been banned in the U.S., others continue to be developed and approved for conventional use. Telling toxic pesticides to buzz off can change the entire system of how we grow our food. You are what you eat so shouldn’t it be organic?
Children are the most vulnerable to pesticides. Pound for pound, they drink two and a half times more water, eat three to four times more food, and breathe twice as much air. Therefore, they absorb a higher concentration of pesticides than adults. Research indicates children exposed to pesticides face higher incidence of birth defects,6 childhood brain cancers, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Keep your family poison-free by choosing organic.
Pesticides are designed to kill. When applied to fields, both target pests and many beneficial organisms are wiped out. American honeybee populations have dropped by 29%-36% each year since 2006 and Colony Collapse Disorder has been associated with synthetic pesticide use.
