Salmon Paws contains only human-grade Wild Salmon caught in the pristine waters of Alaska. Unlike many other salmon pet treats out on the market today, our product is 100% pure salmon meat with NO bones, fillers, or yeast! There are four types of wild salmon: King, Sockeye, Pinks, and Chums. Sockeye is of the more expensive salmon.

There are two types of farmed salmon: Atlantics and Steelhead.

Typically farmed salmon is much too oily for pets, (will give them diarrhea). The meat around the belly on wild salmon is also too oily for pets.

We use the center cut from the Sockeye salmon for our treat (this area is very lean and free of bones). We take this meat and put it through a silent cutter (large food processor) to make it into a consistency to form into strips. For the past 15 years we have been making a human grade jerky subsequently this finished product seems better for pets than the whole meat strips. This way we can add other ingredients such as broccoli, carrots or wheatgrass.

Most other pet manufacturers who use salmon in their product must heat their salmon to very high temperatures to break down the skin, bones, guts, head, etc. This method produces ash which is bad for pets. We heat our product to only 170F, to extract only the moisture from the ’treat’ and kill any bacteria. Above all we do not use those parts of the fish.
